Vodacom has been a proud sponsor of the Blue Bulls rugby side since 2005. The Vodacom Bulls, who are based at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, have a truly impressive rugby pedigree, with more Currie Cup final victories than any other team and three Vodacom Super Rugby title wins – 2007, 2009 and 2010. Their legendary status in world rugby is well-known. The Vodacom Bulls fans are just as formidable as the rugby players and Vodacom is proud to be associated with this much loved team.
The Vodacom Super Rugby tournament combines the best rugby players from the top three countries world rugby in a tough, uncompromising search for the best team in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2011, the Vodacom Super Rugby competition will evolve into a new format, welcoming a 15th team from Australia, the Melbourne Rebels. To accommodate the changes, teams have been divided into three country conferences in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, ensuring a local edge as teams first battle it out for bragging rights in their own country through more local derbies. The competition will then reach a crescendo when the three conference winners and three wildcard qualifiers meet in an extended finals series to determine the champion team.
Regarded as one of the toughest teams in world rugby, the Springboks are not only the current World Cup holders, after their astounding victory in France in 2007, but also one of only two sides to ever have captured the World Cup twice. Consistently among the top two nations in world rugby, the side that play in Green and Gold are a passionate favourite of all South Africans, who support the “Bokke” with pride whenever they go out onto the field. In 2011 the Springboks will attempt to become the first side to defend a World Cup crown when the tournament moves to New Zealand. After their 2009 victory against the British and Irish Lions and in the Vodacom Tri Nations, they can afford to feel confident. Vodacom, as official telecommunications supplier to the Springboks, plays a proud part in their success.
